A friend of mine went to Japan a few years back and while he was there, he found a pair of pants in a thrift shop. There's no tag and they appeared to be handmade. He loved the ease of wear, they're a little short in the inseam and slightly boxy. He and I are very different sizes but we can both wear the pants and love them sooooo, it got my wheels turning. I started working on a pattern for a pair of comfy louging pants that can fit a variety of sizes.
They have a stretchy bamboo drawstring for comfort, no elastic. I added big side seam pockets, hand painted beads and the patchy quilt top ones here have a vintage sheet as a lining. The reason why I line my quilt tops is bc the backs are generally not serged or finished seams & normal wear and tear and washing can cause them to fray and come apart. By lining the garment with a sheet, it encases all the seams so they wont fray and it gives you a very sturdy pair of pants that you can plan to adventure in for a long long time. I added some vintage tulip trim down the front of these bc I love you!
This pair! I patchedworked in some scraps from previos projects, some duck quilt squares and some of my favorite vintage quilt blocks from my stash.
Waist, full extended is 40”
Hips, 46”
Inseam, 20.5”
I would say these pants would best fit someone who typically wears between a M and XL. All of the measurements were taken with the garment laying flat, please double the measurement for the chest/waist/hips to get the total circumference.
